The Evolution of Jasmine

Oh, sweet Princess Jasmine.  Why are you so popular? This is my third go 'round with the Arabian beauty so I thought it would be fun to show you how she's evolved in my cookie-ing.

Princess Jasmine Take One:  Still figuring out how to do faces at this point.  Lots of questions and only one way to learn - trial and error. How to inset eyes and mouths? Should I inset the nose or draw it on top of the face?  If I draw it do I use royal icing or food marker?  And what color?  Brown or black?  I think for a first run it's not too terrible.  She doesn't quite have Jasmine's features, a little heavy on the outlining and the mouth's a bit too pouty, but she's serviceable.

Princess Jasmine Take Two: Much closer.  Things I learned from my first try was to outline her face and nose as well as her other features in black before filling in with flesh tone.  the mouth is closer and I like the gold disco dust for some shimmer.

Princess Jasmine Take Three:  My favorite of the three.  Lessons taken from Jasmine 2.0 - go thicker on the upper lashes, add outline for hair definition and don't forget the nostrils!  Also, forehead-smack moment regarding eyes.  I was doing them with royal icing, which would result in high 3D eyeballs.  It finally dawned on me to just fill in the whites then go in with my food markers for the iris and pupil. Finish with a dot of white royal icing and you're done.  See this post for more details.

  3. I like the first one the best AND it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the fact that you made those for a very special little girl! {wink}{wink}

  4. I liked to see this evolution.....funny the things you learn along the way....and I like you doing it first so we can learn from you! Did you do a post once on "mouths"....I would like to see that....I have trouble with those!

    Hoping you are now able to type V's...........or else we will have to break up.
